News photographers provide the world with a unique camera-eye view of history – and recent Village resident John Cornell is one such “lens historian.” A retired Newsday photographer and Pulitzer Prize-winner, Cornell is a past president of the National Press Photographers Association – and the new president of the Camera Club of Laguna Woods Village.

Cornell will share some of his memorable photos and the stories behind them on Thursday, July 27, when he presents “Eyes on History” at the Video Club’s General Meeting at 6:30 pm in the Video Lab.

.
Cornell worked for Newsday from 1972 until his retirement in 2003. Helping to bridge photography’s transition from film to digital imagery, he was  in charge of working with new electronics for photographers to use on a daily basis. He holds an MBA in business administration from Adelphi University.

As the Camera Club president, Cornell leads the group, now over 50 years old, in providing photographers at all skill levels with opportunities to utilize the club’s facilities and events while enjoying the company of other photographers.

Cornell’s presentation will be open free to residents and their guests. Socializing and refreshments begin at 6:30 pm with the program at 7, followed by questions. The Video Lab is located inside Gate 12 between Clubhouse 2 and the Pool. For more information about Video Club activities, visit the club’s website at videocluboflagunawoods.com.
