What’s up with the Video Club’s two TV programs in October? Learning about two upcoming local festivals and visiting a fun brewery near the Village and keep “Beyond the Gates” hosts busy, while “Eyes on Books” reviews a novel which offers a unique view of Abraham Lincoln’s turbulent times.
Host Cherri Ferrah takes viewers to GameCraft Brewing in Laguna Hills (right), where she interview owner Scott Cebula about the venue’s German beers and many special events, including three Trivia Nights a week.
Both half-hour shows are produced monthly by members of the club’s Video One Productions team. “Beyond the Gates” airs on Village Television Wednesdays at 11 am and Sundays at 9 am; “Eyes on Books” airs Mondays and Thursdays at 9:30 am. The shows are produced by Suzanne Savlov with photography directed by Jack Crawbuck.
“Beyond the Gates” host Bill Hemberger interviews Geoffrey Sarkissin, President of the Inter-Canyon League, about the Country Fair & Folk Festival (above) to be held October 14-15 at the Silverado Community Center. Locals dress up for this annual event which features music, games, crafts, gunfight enactment, and pie-eating and costume contests.

Finally, BTG host Susan Wheeler learns from Jackie Stein about the Irvine Global Village, often called Orange County’s premier multicultural event, to be held in the Great Park on Saturday, October 14, from 10 am-6 pm. The 22-year-old tradition celebrates Irvine’s diverse community through food, music, and art.
“Eyes on Books” interviewers Elaine Schnitter and Steve Savlov discuss “The House of Lincoln” and talk with its best-selling author, Nancy Horan (below). The novel is seen through the eyes of a 13-year-old Portuguese girl serving in the home of attorney Abraham Lincoln. Covering several decades, it takes readers through the buildup to Lincoln’s presidency, the duration of the Civil War, and its troubled aftermath, with special focus on race relations.
