The Video Club’s fifth Short Dramatic Film, “Seeking Online Adventures” had its Premier showing March 13 at the club’s March General Meeting, drawing a capacity crowd to the Video Lab. An overflow of some 20 guests were able to view the film in the Video Studio, where refreshments were being served (center photo, below).

The 27-minute film is an insightful comedy exploring both good and bad aspects of senior online dating. Club member and Village resident Mary Zolly wrote the script, which won the club’s 2023 Short Dramatic Script contest. As an experienced performer who has appeared in many Village stage productions, Mary also plays the leading role – that of a podcaster wise in relationships.

At the Premiere, Mary (right) addressed the crowd with a call for more residents to participate in making videos to “celebrate our lives.” Vice President Tom Nash served as the evening’s emcee, introducing club President Jonathan Williams; the cast – Mary Zolly (Sophia), Dawn Vasco (Emma), Karen Elliott (Jill), and Charlie Huntsman (Ted); and leading crew members – Jack Crawbuck, Director of Photography and Co-Editor; Suzanne Savlov, Co-Producer and Co-Editor; and Lucy Parker, Co-Producer.

The film will be shown on Village Television during April (for air-times, consult the monthly TV schedule on the Village website). “Seeking Online Adventures” can also be viewed on the Video Club’s YouTube channel under Video Club of Laguna Woods>Playlists>Short Dramatic Films, along with the club’s previous four films, “Write It Down” (20190, “What? You, Too?” (2021), “The Hole in One” (2022), and “Bowling Ball Debacle” (2023).

“Seeking Online Adventures” was shot last July at the Village manor of Dee Dewey (many thanks for providing us with such an excellent location!!). Production costs were covered through a “Fund the Film” campaign, conducted by the Video Club in cooperation with the Village Community Fund, thus making all donations tax deductible. “Fund the Film” continues as an active campaign, seeking support for our next film. Donations are greatly appreciated.
