Watch for the video of the meeting, shot by Equipment Manager Jim Rohrs. When the video is available on the club’s YouTube channel (with a link to it on this page), We’ll let you know via our Videogram e-newsletter.
A program on “Practical Everyday Uses of Artificial Intelligence” drew a capacity crowd (above) to the Video Club’s General Meeting, Wednesday, April 16, in the Video Lab. Dr. John G. Peters, Jr., and Video Club President Jonathan Williams continued sharing their exciting exploration of AI and how to understand and use it.
Opening the meeting, Vice President Tom Nash (at left, below) joined Jonathan in a video tribute to the late Steve Carman, who served as Video Club President from 2015 to 2023.

John and Jonathan began their occasional AI series last fall, exploring the amazing new tool which simulates human capabilities, with a successful program on “Understanding and Using Artificial Intelligence” at the club’s November 13, 2024 General Meeting. A video of that meeting is available on this website.
GET THE HANDOUT!
Below, to view, print, or download, is the handout providing “Prompt Guidelines with Examples” which was distributed to help attendees make practical uses of AI.

“This time, we’ll show you ways to make AI your helpful companion in everyday tasks around the house,” said John (right), an experienced AI presenter and graduate of MIT’s Sloan School of Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. A Village resident, Peters also serves as the club’s Publicity Director.
“If you use Alexa, Siri, or GPS, or drive an electric car, you’ve already experienced AI in action,” points out co-presenter. Jonathan, added, “Many people feel unsure or even anxious about AI, but we’ll guide you through everything in a friendly and easy-to-understand way.”
AI systems have been shown to learn, reason, solve problems, process language, and perceive, using machine learning algorithms which are trained on large datasets to identify patterns and make predictions. By processing data from cameras and sensors, for example, AI is able to detect objects, identify faces, and recognize images. The speakers explained how such achievements on the digital frontier are being applied in practical, everyday ways., such as making a recipe from specific ingredients, writing a strong job-related business letter, or generating a custom illustration.

Above, the program drew rapt attention with many questions and comments from the audience.
The program was open without charge to all Village residents and their guests. Refreshments at 6:30 pm, program at 7 pm.
