Two Video Production Classes

Learn to use Video Studio equipment to produce your own projects and to be part of team-based club projects! Dr. Tom Nash will teach “Introduction to Video Studio Production” in 2 weekly sessions, starting Monday, April 22, 1-2:30 pm in the Video Studio. The first session will cover the roles of director, camera operator, floor manager, and other members of a studio production team. In the “hands-on” second session, each student will produce a 30-second announcement while all students will take turns performing each production task.

To help you hone your video production skills, Tom will also offer 4 weekly “Video Production Workshops” starting Monday, May 6, 1-2:30 pm in the Video Studio. The workshops will provide detailed training in “Lighting,” “Camera,” “Grip (camera and lighting support devices)” and “Sound.” Students may enroll in any or all sessions.

Intro to YouTube & Short Film Scriptwriting

One of the Video Club’s most popular classes, “Introduction to YouTube,” will be offered for 4 sessions, starting Wednesday, May 1, 10-11:30 am in the Video Studio, taught by Ward Cushman, the club’s YouTube Administrator. Topics covered will include an overview of YouTube, creating a YouTube channel, and uploading and deleting videos.

“Scriptwriting for Short Dramatic Films,” 3 sessions, starting Thursday, April 25, 10 am-noon in the Video Studio, will be taught by Gila Zalon and Lucy Parker, covering concepts of theme, plot, and characterization, as well as proper filmscript formatting. Original scripts may be submitted to the Video Club for possible local production. Two scripts that came out of this class when Gila and Lucy offered it in spring, 2021, were actually produced by the Video Club — “The Hole in One” (2022) by Doug Sainsbury and “Bowling Ball Debacle” (2023) by Jeanne Sanner.
