Banquet-Contest Video – Video One member Suzanne Savlov (shown in photo above explaining her editing project to the group at March 16 meeting) is nearing completion on the editing of an hour-long video about our February 24 “Academy” Awards Banquet. Winners of the club’s Annual Short Video Contest were selected by club members from 10 finalist entry videos which were screened at the event.
The 10 entries will be included in Suzanne’s video with host commentary by Video One member Bill Hemberger (shown below being made up for the shoot by Dr Jeanne Mayer) and guest host Tracy Stewart, a Village resident. Bill and Tracy also interviewed first and second-place winners Lucy Parker and John Kelley (shown below, fourth photo) during a special Video One shoot on March 21.
Suzanne’s video is expected to air on Village Television during May and will be posted on the club YouTube channel. Phil Doran directed the March 21 shoot. Paul Chiang is shown below running the switcher for the shoot, while new member Fred Harshbarger handles audio. Final photo shows hosts Bill and Tracy on set. Green screen was used to add a “news desk” background for the interviews.

“Senior Scams” PSAs – Bill Hemberger is also front and center in the development of a series of 30-second public service announcements (PSAs) on “Senior Scams,” which Video One has undertaken. The series was originally proposed by Video One member Gloria D’Simone-Shute. The first shoot is scheduled for Wednesday, April 11. Click here for more info. The “Senior Scam” PSAs are intended for use on Village Television and elsewhere.
“Laguna Woods Stories” – Video One continues to do production on the monthly Village Television interview series, “Laguna Woods Stories,” under the direction of Dr. Tom Nash, who usually serves as the series’ host. On April 6, Video One member Betsy Martin will step into the host’s chair for the May edition of “Laguna Woods Stories,” interviewing residents involved with Earth Day and energy awareness.
Other Projects – Other current Video One projects include a documentary on the “grandmother trees” of Laguna Woods Village (June Davis, Producer), a PSA for the Softball Club and video coverage of Senior Games Baseball (Jim Rohrs, producer), an informational video about art lecturer and resident Penni Rubin (Betsy Martin, Producer), a video introducing the Village’s three writing clubs (Charlie Redner, Producer), a video of College Club President Patricia Powell’s February 28 memorial celebration (Star Key, Producer), and more.
